What?
An iconic mixed use development on the bank of the River Tyne.
Why?
To support the regional ambitions for business and visitor growth by creating a vibrant new waterfront location and improve connectivity with the wider area.
How?
The new waterfront complex at Gateshead Quays will host international conferences and exhibitions as well as music and cultural events, and will be operated by renowned venue management group, ASM Global, and now known as The Sage. Coming soon:
Together with our JV partner, PATRIZIA, and on behalf of Gateshead Council, we are delighted to announce that we have appointed Lendlease to deliver The Sage International Conference Centre at Gateshead Quays, which follows swiftly on after planning was approved by Gateshead Council for the revised plans for the 61,440m riverside scheme.
Enabling works have been taking place over the last two years and Lendlease plan to make a start on site later this year.
We have appointed Russell WBHO to construct the 344 bedroom, dual branded hotel at Baltic Quarter on Gateshead Quayside which will be operated by Accor under its Novotel and ibis brands.
The hotel will be located on the corner of Quarryfield Road and Hawks Road and will support the wider city region as well as accommodating future visitors to The Sage International Conference Centre and Arena which is being developed adjacent to the site.
We’re looking forward to making a swift start on site and seeing the creation of another valuable asset for the Quayside area.
Positive news was received today with the unanimous approval by Gateshead Council of the relocation of the dual-branded hotel – Novotel and ibis – which together will provide 344 bedrooms, supporting a significant uplift in local tourism and spend, with an estimated £13m annual contribution being made to the local economy.
Construction of the 9 storey hotel will start to take shape later this year on a vacant half acre site at the corner of Quarryfield Road and Hawks Road, and will feature a residents’ gym, restaurants, bars and business meeting rooms.
We’re delighted to announce that our partner, ASM Global, has secured a ten year sponsorship deal with North East based FTSE 100 company, The Sage, for the arena-led scheme on the bank of the River Tyne.
When it opens in 2024, The Sage will be the region’s biggest business and entertainment development and is expected to welcome more than one million visitors every year.
We’re pleased to report that enabling works have now begun. This is a significant step forward for developing the site, with BAM appointed to do the initial preparation works including installation of hoardings.
Full construction work will begin next year.
We are delighted to confirm that the dual branded hotel will feature a 187 room Novotel which will be the brand’s newest design as well as a 140 room ibis with a vibrant public space and lounge. Appealing to a broad range of customers and forming an integral part of the scheme, the hotel will have direct access into the conference and exhibition centre which is a key consideration particularly for event organisers when choosing a venue.
