Transformational 50-acre project

What:

Redevelopment of Old Trafford Cricket Ground and neighbouring 50 acres.

Why:

To bring major investment, new employment, world class sports facilities and educational and training opportunities to Trafford, the city region and the North West as a whole.

How:

A partnership comprising Ask, Lancashire County Cricket Club, Tesco plc and Trafford Council, was established to deliver a transformational mixed use scheme covering 50 acres which was at the heart of the Council’s sports-led regeneration framework for the cricket ground and the vision for the Borough’s future.  The thrust of this partnership was the determination to see Old Trafford win back international Test Match cricket, particularly The Ashes, which necessitated a wholesale redevelopment of the Ground.  The significant enhancements were completed over two phases resulting in the International Cricket Board re-awarding Old Trafford Test Match status and the Ashes returned in July 2013.  

This truly landmark development has made a major contribution to grass roots and elite sporting development locally and across the region, whilst also safeguarding/generating over 1,000 jobs.

We created:

• Player and media facilities
• The Point, a conference and events suite
• 170,000 sq ft food store
• New sporting facilities at Stretford High School
• Stadium upgrade including extension to indoor cricket school
• Refurbished pavilion
• Two tier seating, associated infrastructure and external works
